English Speaking Days (2022-2023)

English-Speaking Days – Learning English across the Curriculum

English-Speaking Days have become a beloved tradition in our school, providing students with a platform to enhance their English language skills, expand their knowledge of the world, and develop critical thinking skills. This year’s Speaking Days were even more special, as the themes were related to subjects with English as the medium of instruction, including Geography, History, Science, and Mathematics.

In October, students explored ‘The English-Speaking World’, visiting countries with English as their primary language and learning about their tourist attractions and cuisines. This was followed by ‘Amazing People’ in December, which featured famous icons in various fields and their accomplishments, including sportswoman Siobhán Haughey and K-pop idol group BTS. ‘Trailblazing Inventions’ in February introduced students to technological inventions that transformed our world, along with their modern usage and future development. In March, ‘Wild Nature’ focused on natural disasters and their impacts, prompting students to discuss ways to protect ourselves from these destructive forces. Finally, ‘Fun with Maths’ in May taught students how to understand mathematics expressed in English through solving riddles and translating sentences into algebraic expressions.

On our Speaking Days, broadcasts are made entirely in English and students are encouraged to speak only English for the duration of the day. During recesses, English Ambassadors and teachers are stationed on each floor to ask students theme-related questions. Students who give insightful responses receive prizes, and our Ambassadors often have fun as well when learning about ideas and thoughts of their peers.

We wish to express our gratitude to English Ambassadors and teachers who have worked tirelessly to make our Speaking Days possible. Their dedication and effort have undoubtedly helped students improve their English proficiency and create a rich English learning environment in our school. We hope that English-Speaking Days will continue to inspire and motivate students to learn and grow!
